A truly exceptional nose, Jahnvi Nandan authors the Perfume Library collection. Her compositions are singular and artisanal. One encounters superb technical mastery among a handful of perfumers in the world, but Ms. Nandan’s signatures are distinguished by a true olfactory freedom of spirit.

Like a painter who can easily paint a perfect portrait but prefers, instead, to create beautifully using their own unique artistic language, Ms. Nandan does not copy, or use raw materials or accords to hackneyed effects.

Though I imagine hers is partly a personal expression, Ms. Nandan’s is, above all for me, a rare talent who is, building upwards from ancient foundations, boldly developing a contemporary Indian perfume vernacular. Wise to fundamentals and technique from both the subcontinent and the West, rather than copy and tweak, she is trailblazing new homegrown scent languages.
